Macaria carbonaria (Clerck, 1759)
Netted Mountain Moth
Witalnik węgliniak

Familia  Geometridae
Ordo  Lepidoptera
Classis  Insecta
Typus  Arthropoda

Summary  Macaria carbonaria is known in Poland from a few localities in the northern and central parts of the country, and from the Białowieża Forest. Now, it only occurs at some of these localities. The decline of many populations of M. carbonaria is attributed to the dying of Arctostaphylos uva-ursi, a vanishing and protected plant in Poland, which is the host plant of its caterpillars, and to the spontaneous overgrowing or afforestation of suitable habitat. It is suggested that M. carbonaria localities and its host plant should be protected in nature reserves.
