Limoniscus violaceus (Ph. W. Müller, 1821)
Familia | Elateridae | |
Ordo | Coleoptera | |
Classis | Insecta | |
Typus | Arthropoda | |
Summary | The species is known in Poland from two localities: the Białowieża Forest where it was found in the 1870s and Bielinek on the Odra River, in the 1920s; since then its occurrence has not been confirmed at these localities. The species is associated with loose deciduous forests, forest-steppes and sparsely growing old trees in anthropogenic habitats (treated as a substitute for natural habitats). Its development is connected with cavities filled with mould, formed at the basal parts of old trees. The scarcity of suitable habitat is the most probable cause of the species decline. The north-eastern border of its geographical range is likely to run through Poland. Protected by law.
