Pocota personata (Harris, 1780)

Familia  Syrphidae
Ordo  Diptera
Classis  Insecta
Typus  Arthropoda

Summary  It is a rare and local saprophagous insect, known in Poland from a few localities. Before 1950 it was known only from the vicinity of Szczecin, Gdańsk and Warszawa. In the middle of the 20th century its occurrence was found in the Świętokrzyskie Mts. and in the Bieszczady Mts. Recently, it has also been observed in the vicinity of Milicz and in the Spała Forests. Most of its former localities have not been confirmed. The species is threatened due to loss of natural biotopes, old forests with decaying trees which are food for its larvae. The basic method for conservation of Pocota personata is creation of nature reserves in areas where the occurrence of imagines is observed. Polish localities of this dipteran are protected in nature reserves. P. personata is not protected by law and does not need such protection.
