Donus nidensis Mazur et Petryszak, 1981

Ziołomirek stepowy

Familia  Curculionidae
Ordo  Coleoptera
Classis  Insecta
Typus  Arthropoda

Summary  Donus nidensis has been described from one site in Poland (Małopolska Upland: "Przęślin" nature reserve) and so far it has been the only (and probably relict) locality of this species in our country. In 1996 there was published information about its discovery in two places in Ukraine (Podolian Upland, sub-Carpathians). It is a xerothermic species of probably steppic origin. In Poland, both imagines and larvae of D. nidensis live on Inula ensifolia in the xerothermic Inuletum ensifoliae association which has developed there on gypsum. The developmental cycle of this weevil has not as yet been thoroughly studied; it leads a nocturnal life. It has not been included in the list of legally protected species. As yet no direct threats to its population have been identified in Poland. The only known locality is protected in a strict nature reserve.
