Coniocleonus cicatricosus (Hoppe, 1795)

Opiołek znamienity

Familia  Curculionidae
Ordo  Coleoptera
Classis  Insecta
Typus  Arthropoda

Summary  Coniocleonus cicatricosus represents a Mediterranean element in Poland. Not protected by law. It occurs now at only one locality in the environs of Kielce (Małopolska Upland); in the years 1900-1918 it was also collected in Kraków. It is probably a xerothermic species associated with grassland vegetation. Its developmental cycle has not yet been known; its food preferences also need detailed studies. The principal threats to the species are connected with population factors (small numbers, poor breeding success) and unfavourable changes in xerothermic biotopes in Poland (overgrowing with trees and shrubs, expansion of nitrophilous species etc.). Conservation efforts should focus on the protection of the whole biotope in which the species occurs.
