Pseudocleonus grammicus (Panzer, 1789)

Cudzich brunatny

Familia  Curculionidae
Ordo  Coleoptera
Classis  Insecta
Typus  Arthropoda

Summary  Pseudocleonus grammicus occurs in Poland at eight localities which are scattered within an area of about 150 km2 in the environs of Miechów (Małopolska Upland). At all these sites, discovered after 1953, the species still persists. The largest observed population included no more than 80 individuals. The species is a typical representative of the termophilous fauna. It inhabits xerothermic grasslands, particularly those growing on chalk substratum. Not protected by law in Poland. Protected are only two populations which occur in strict nature reserves. The principal threats to this species include unfavourable changes in xerothermic habitats, caused by their afforestation (or overgrowing as the result of natural succession, accelerated by man), ploughing, burning, trampling and littering.
