Ametropus fragilis Albarda, 1878

Familia  Ametropodidae
Ordo  Ephemeroptera
Classis  Insecta
Typus  Arthropoda

Summary  It is a psammophilous species, living in rivers with loose sandy bottom. Larvae of a burrower and swimmer type; they may very quickly dig themselves in sand. In Poland it is known from a few localities; recently only reported from the Bug and Narew rivers. A direct threat to the species is loss and degradation of suitable habitat, mostly as the result of hydro-engineering work (channelization) on rivers and their increasing pollution. Not protected by law. It is suggested to designate river nature reserves in places where larvae of this species still exist.
