Ectemnius fossorius (Linnaeus, 1758)

Grzebacz wielki

Familia  Sphecidae
Ordo  Hymenoptera
Classis  Insecta
Typus  Arthropoda

Summary  This species represents the boreal-mountain element in our fauna, occurring in Europe and partly in Asia; everywhere rare, very rare and declining. During the last 20 years it has not been reported from Poland. Most of its known localities (probably only of historical importance) are in mountains (Beskid Zachodni, Pieniny, Góry Świętokrzyskie), part in the Wielkopolska-Kujawy Lowland and in the Białowieża Forest. It is supposed that the regress of Ectemnius fossorius results from habitat transformations and is connected with environmental pollution, and particularly soil pollution. Protection of its habitat is the most effective method of E. fossorius conservation. Better knowledge of its occurrence and bionomy is needed. Not protected by law.
