Aulonothroscus laticollis (Rybiński, 1897)

Podrywek szerokogrzbiety

Familia  Throscidae
Ordo  Coleoptera
Classis  Insecta
Typus  Arthropoda

Summary  It is an exceptionally rare and local species; beyond Poland known from Croatia, Finland and France. It was described from Poland on the basis of species collected in the Niepołomice Forest where it probably has become extinct. The current Polish localities are only known from the Białowieża Forest. It is a species associated with natural forests (mainly mixed forests and oak-hornbeam forests) and may be considered as a relict of primeval forests. The principal threat to Aulonothroscus laticollis is the decline of forests of primeval character. Effective conservation of A. laticollis requires that the economic use of the Białowieża Forest should be stopped and strict protection should be extended over a considerable part of the habitats of coniferous and oak-hornbeam forests.
