Lacon lepidopterus (Panzer, 1801)

Kowalina łuskoskrzydła

Familia  Elateridae
Ordo  Coleoptera
Classis  Insecta
Typus  Arthropoda

Summary  It is a very rare Euro-Siberian species, considered as an ecological relict of primeval forests. In Poland it is known from few scattered localities, most of which have not recently been confirmed. Its larvae develop in old dying and dead trees, usually coniferous ones. A serious threat to this species is the scarcity and decline of natural forests of primeval character. To stop the process of Lacon lepidopterus decline in forests where it occurs, it is necessary that its main habitats should be strictly protected (passive protection) and that the strictly protected area should be extended.
