Epeolus schummeli Schilling, 1848

Mamrzyca rudobrzucha

Familia  Anthophoridae
Ordo  Hymenoptera
Classis  Insecta
Typus  Arthropoda

Summary  It is a parasitic bee species, which was only noted in Poland at the beginning of the 20th century at four localities in Wielkopolska, in Lower Silesia and in the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland. For several decades its occurrence has not been confirmed in the country. Its decline may be attributed to the elimination of nesting places of its host Colletes nasutus due to developing agriculture, afforestation of waste land and intensification of urbanization processes. It is recommended that any discovered locality of E. schummeli should be protected in a nature reserve.
