Pisidium tenuilineatum Stelfox, 1918
Fine-lined Pea Mussel

Familia  Sphaeriidae
Ordo  Veneroida
Classis  Bivalvia
Typus  Mollusca

Summary  Pisidium tenuilineatum is one of the rarest mussel species in Poland. Its range covers the Western Palearctic. It was found in our country after 1950. So far about 30 localities have been known; they are scattered in the whole area of the country, except for mountains. The most numerous populations were found in rivers that flow through the loess areas of the Małopolska Upland. It is a reophilous species; its preferred habitats are clean, fast flowing waters with high Ca content but it was also discovered in the littoral and sublittoral of lakes. The principal threats to this mussel are water pollution and river regulation. The species is not protected by law.
