| Summary | It is a synanthropic saprophagous species of Tenebrionidae, which is becoming increasingly rarer in Poland. It is a typical representative of species which in the pre-industrial period had adapted to the life in human settlements and which are now threatened due changes occurring there. During the last years its occurrence has only been confirmed in a few scattered localities in Wielkopolska, Upper Silesia, Łódź, the Małopolska Upland and the Sandomierz Lowland, though previously it occurred all over the country. A decrease in its numbers is connected with the successive loss of habitat: old farm buildings, farmhouse larders etc. These changes are inevitable in view of the construction of modern farm buildings. Therefore, the only method for Blaps mortisaga conservation in Poland is controlled rearing, particularly in places which are already inhabited by the species. | |
