Rhysodes sulcatus (Fabricius, 1787)
Wrinkled Bark Beetle
Zagłębek bruzdkowany

Familia  Rhysodidae
Ordo  Coleoptera
Classis  Insecta
Typus  Arthropoda

Summary  It is a very rare and vanishing beetle, associated with natural and primeval forests, mostly deciduous and mixed forests. In Poland its has recently been found at a few places: the Białowieża Forest, Babia Góra National Park, Roztocze NP, ¦więtokrzyski NP, the surroundings of Hrubieszów and the Beskid Niski Mountains. Larvae belong to xylophages and saprophages. The shrinkage of old, structurally differentiated forest and their fragmentation is believed a cause of the decline of this species in the past century. The only effective method of conservation of this species in Poland is protecting its main habitat, particularly in forest reserves and national parks.
