Podeonius acuticornis (Germar, 1824)

Płatkostopek ostrorogi

Familia  Elateridae
Ordo  Coleoptera
Classis  Insecta
Typus  Arthropoda

Summary  It is an extremely rare European species, disappearing from many localities within its range. In Poland it is known from only one locality, situated in the group of old oaks protected as nature monuments on the Warta River in Rogalin near Poznań. Individuals develop in cavities of old trees (mainly oaks) filled with mould. The species is threatened by flooding the Warta River valley in late spring as the result of retention reservoir emptying. Additional threats are posed by conservation measures applied to old trees, colonized by this beetle, and destruction of moulds by anglers and tourists.
