Gnaptor spinimanus (Pallas, 1781)

Marchołt

Familia  Tenebrionidae
Ordo  Coleoptera
Classis  Insecta
Typus  Arthropoda

Summary  A steppic species, in Central Europe found only rarely at scarce isolated localities where it is threatened with extinction due to small numbers and loss of suitable habitat. In Poland it was reported at the beginning of the 19th and 20th centuries from Silesia; most probably these were cases of accidental bringing (Burakowski, Mroczkowski, Stefańska 1987). Certain records are those from south-eastern Poland: from Roztocze (Tenenbaum 1918) and the environs of Hrubieszów (Bartkowska 1975). In recent years no records of its occurrence have been reported. It is a wingless species with small dispersion abilities. In view of its low numbers and successive loss of xerothermic biotopes one should be prepared for its extinction in Poland. The only effective method for its conservation is protection of its localities and maintenance of its habitat in unchanged state through appropriate conservation measures (Mazur, Kubisz 2000). Not protected by law.
