| Summary | Antipalus sinuatus is a rare xerothermic species, mentioned from Poland and the European part of the former Soviet Union. Its occurrence in Austria needs confirmation beacuse of uncertain location of "locus typicus" (Loew 1854). The majority of information about the occurrence of A. sinuatus comes from Poland where it was for the first time found at the end of the 19th century in the vicinity of Kraków (Droginia) and in the Góry Świętokrzyskie Mts. (Bodzentyn). It the 1950s it was reported from the Nida River Valley (Chroberz), Dwikozy near Sandomierz and the Kampinos Forest, and recently from the Świętokrzyski National Park ("Zapusty" escarpment) and in the Miechów Upland near Szczepanowice. It is most numerous in xerothermic grasslands near Szczepanowice and on the "Zapusty" escarpment in the Świętokrzyski National Park; at the remaining locations only single individuals were found. Imagines occur from the beginning of June to the first days of August; the most numerous occurrences fall on the end of June and the earlier part of July. Adult insects are active on warm and sunny days. They are most often found on herbaceous plants and on loess walls and paths. Imagines are predatory; they were found preying on beetles: Choleva glauca and Phylloperta horticola (Palaczyk A. - mat. niepubl.). The species is threatened because it localities are small (a few hectares) and in addition, its habitat is overgrowing by trees and shrubs. It is not protected by law and does not need protection as a species. | |
