| Summary | This very rare tyrphobiontic arctic-alpine species occurs in Poland only in Sphagnum peat bogs in the Sudety Mountains, the Tatry Mountains and in the Podhale region. During ca 135 years of investigations of different intensity, the species was recorded at 26 localities, of which at most 20 are current places of the development of larvae. They inhabit mainly very small and shallow (hence temporary) pools, which are easily becoming overgrown and turn into land. It seems that the only effective conservation method, in addition to protection in reserves, is prevention of plant succession on peat bogs, above all dwarf mountain pine expansion. The species is protected by law. | |
