Cordulegaster boltonii (Donovan, 1807)
Golden-ringed Dragonfly
Szklarnik leśny

Familia  Cordulegastridae
Ordo  Odonata
Classis  Insecta
Typus  Arthropoda

Summary  In Poland, Cordulegaster boltonii is a stenotopic and reobiontic species related to natural biotopes: clear, rather fast and fast current waters, mainly 3-7 m broad, small rivers and streams, rarely ditches. It has so far been recorded at 65 localities (37 in 1976-2003), mainly in southern and western Poland; fewer localities were found in the northern part of the country (Bernard R. 2000, unpubl. data, Buczyński P. 2003b, unpubl. data, Dolný 2003, Gawroński A. - unpubl. data, Kowalczyk, Watała 1990, Tończyk G. - unpubl. data). tThey are dispersed or occur in small local concentrations. The number of localities (currently estimated at a few dozens) locally decreases and the species seems to be extinct or almost extinct in some previously inhabited areas, especially in southern Poland (e.g. Upper Silesia). Protected by law. C. boltonii and its habitats should be monitored in Poland. It is necessary to set up some new reserves including all the main refuges of the species.
