Large Blue
Modraszek arion

Familia  Lycaenidae
Ordo  Lepidoptera
Classis  Insecta

Summary  The species is threatened with extinction in Poland. During the last decades it has become extinct in half of the country area. It occurs in dry meadows in pine forests, at roadsides and along railways, in pastures and on sunlit slopes in low mountains. Maculinea arion is threatened due to increasing eutrophication of its breeding habitats and overgrowing of habitats as the result of natural succession. It is recommended that the breeding habitats of M. arion should be maintained in a state enabling its development. It is protected by law in Poland.
