| Summary | Cream-spot Tiger is a rare species in Poland, though noted in almost the whole area of the country. Currently confirmed localities concentrate in the belt of central Poland lowlands, from Poznań to Puławy. This moth shows a preference for warm and loose deciduous forests, parks and gardens. During the last several decades a marked decrease in the number of its localities has been observed; in addition, the numbers of moths have varied greatly between particular localities and years. The principal threats to the species include transformation and over-building of suburban areas and elimination of old orchards which are places of the development of larvae. Spring and autumn grass burning has also a negative impact on local populations. Conservation of Arctia villica should focus on active protection of its localities (in nature reserves and sites of ecological interest) and their permanent monitoring. Not protected by law. | |
