| Summary | Helix lutescens is a xerothermophilous species, assigned to the Dacian-Podolian element. In Poland it only occurs in the south-eastern part of the country, reaching there the north-western border of its geographical range. It has insular distribution but its local populations are rather numerous and strong. The species lives also in anthropogenic habitats, reaching there high densities. Risks to the existence of H. lutescens include: (1) regional and insular distribution, (2) occurrence in unstable anthropogenic habitats, (3) and situation of Polish populations at the margins of the species geographical range. It is also threatened by accidental collection together with the Roman snail Helix pomatia during the period of its exploitation for consumption purposes. It is (and should be) protected by law. | |
