| Summary | It is a xerothermophilous species, occupying a relatively small area in Europe, everywhere very rare. In Poland it has the northern limit of its geographical range. Stizus perrisii may be considered as extinct in our country, as its occurrence has not been confirmed for more than forty years. Its decline was probably caused by general changes in the environment, such as pollution and loss of preferred biotopes through e.g. afforestation of sandy areas, which are a typical habitat of S. perrisii. It is not impossible that a series of cool and rainy summers may have contributed to its extinction. A chance of restoring its native population is meagre. Only active protection of its potential habitats (primarily in protected areas, such as national parks, areas of protected landscape etc.) may prove successful. The species is not protected by law. | |
