Eurythyrea quercus (Herbst, 1780)

Pysznik dębowiec

Familia  Buprestidae
Ordo  Coleoptera
Classis  Insecta
Typus  Arthropoda

Summary  It is a thermophilous, southern species of Coleoptera, which in Poland reaches the northern border of its distributional range. It is very rare, known from a mere handful of localities (Sokolniki near Sandomierz, Rogalin, the environs of Szczecin, Białowieża Forest), associated with old oaks growing in sunny sites. Due to a small number of localities and their successive disappearance, the future of the species is uncertain. It is recommended that old oaks should be protected, selected trees should be left in forest to their physiological death, and excessive old oaks' tending should be limited or abandoned. Places where Eurythyrea quercus persists should be protected in nature reserves or sites of ecological interest. Protected by law.
