Tachina grossa (Linnaeus, 1758)

Rączyca wielka

Familia  Tachinidae
Ordo  Diptera
Classis  Insecta
Typus  Arthropoda

Summary  Tachina grossa is a parasitoid developing in the larvae of some butterfly species. It was reported from almost the whole area of Poland; now, it occurs only in some regions of the country. It lives in open areas (meadows, peat land, and heaths) adjacent to forests. During the last several decades a strong decrease in the numbers of its localities and in its population has been noted, which is most probably connected with anthropogenic transformations and chemical pollution of T. grossa habitats. These factors affect the occurrence of both imagines of T. grossa and its hosts. The species is not protected by law.
