Ctenicera heyeri (Saxesen, 1838)

Zaciosek Heyera

Familia  Elateridae
Ordo  Coleoptera
Classis  Insecta
Typus  Arthropoda

Summary  It is one of the rarest and quickly disappearing species of Elateridae in Poland. Not protected. Recently found in the Beskid Śląski Mts. only, though formerly known from a greater number of localities in the Sudety Mts. and in the Carpathians. The decline of its population is certainly caused by improper forest management, leading to the disappearance of the natural biotopes of the species. It is suggested that areas where imagines of Ctenicera heyeri are observed should be protected. Principles and forms of conservation of a given site should be determined by specialists, knowing ecological preferences of the species.
